Customer Questions About Air Purification
What is the difference between an air filter and an air purifier?
An air filter captures particles as air passes through it. An active air purifier treats air using its particular technology. They perform different jobs and may be used together. We explain what the selected model is designed to address and how it works with your existing HVAC equipment.
Which option helps with Western Washington wildfire smoke?
For smoke particles, start with effective particle filtration. Washington guidance recommends MERV 13 or better where the HVAC system can accommodate it, or a suitably sized portable HEPA air cleaner. We check filter fit and airflow before an upgrade. An active purifier or UV accessory alone is not a substitute for smoke-particle filtration.
Can you install purification on my existing furnace or heat pump?
Often, yes. We first check the duct or cabinet space, electrical requirements, airflow, and manufacturer installation instructions. The correct product and placement depend on your system. We can also discuss compatible options during a heating or cooling replacement.
Can a ductless mini-split use an air purifier?
Yes, options exist for homes with ductless equipment. We can assess compatible mini-split accessories and separate room air cleaners. The exact indoor unit, available space, and your air-quality concerns determine which approach fits. The standard mini-split filter is not equivalent to a portable HEPA air cleaner.
Will an air purifier remove every odor or solve a mold problem?
No single product addresses every indoor-air problem. Particle filters do not remove most gases, and performance varies by technology and installation. Moisture or water leaks need to be corrected at their source. We discuss what a proposed system can reasonably address before you choose it.
What maintenance will my air-cleaning system need?
Maintenance depends on the model: filters need replacement, electronic collection cells need cleaning, and purification cells or lamps may need replacement. We explain the manufacturer’s schedule for your selected equipment and can discuss this alongside your HVAC maintenance.
How do I choose the right air-purification system?
Tell us whether your main concern is dust, pets, odors, seasonal smoke, or filtration in a particular room. We evaluate the HVAC system and explain suitable options, installation scope, maintenance, and project pricing before you approve the work.
